Detailed description of Mcnary Golf Club

McNary Golf Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located in Keizer, Oregon.

Mcnary Golf Club first opened for play in 1962. The course was designed by Fred Federspiel and Fred Sparks.

McNary Golf Course lies on land that once housed the family farm of one of Oregon's most prominent citizens, Governor and U.S. Senator Charles McNary. The course, which opened in 1962, was purchased in 1983 by Portland based Hillman Properties.

McNary encompasses 150 acres of meadows. The course is a beautiful layout. A small pond fronts the 11th hole, and Claggett Creek enters play on four holes. Stately oaks, firs, walnuts, redwoods, and pines line fairways.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,239 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,314 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 567 yards. This is also the signature hole. It winds past trees on the left and slopes toward the lake along the right. The huge green slopes toward a moat like leg of Claggett Creek. The shortest hole on the course is # 10, a par-3 that plays to 144 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 11, a 364 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 7, a 146 yard par-3.

This should be a relatively easy course, but it kept coming up and biting me every time I turned around. I really must give it a second chance! The staff was a mess, when we arrived they could not find any reservations and when they did they did not have a cart ready, finally paired us up with others so we could finally get on the course.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area
